In short

Black Pearl is a 106.7-metre sailing yacht that Oceanco delivered in March 2018, after a launch in September 2016 and a long programme of sea trials (Boat International, YachtBuyer). She carries a DynaRig: three rotating 70-metre carbon masts with about 2,900 square metres of square sails that, according to the shipyard, can be set in around seven minutes (Boat International, Oceanco). Boat International describes her rig as the world's largest DynaRig, with about 25 per cent more sail area than Maltese Falcon's (Boat International, October 2021; Boat International). Her variable-pitch propellers can be turned into turbines under sail to charge the batteries, and Oceanco says she can cross the Atlantic without burning fossil fuel (SuperyachtNews, Oceanco). Boat International ranks her as the second-largest sailing yacht in the world after Koru, and she was named Sailing Yacht of the Year at the 2019 World Superyacht Awards (Boat International, YachtBuyer).

Questions

How big is the Black Pearl yacht?
Black Pearl is 106.7 metres (350 ft) long, with a 15-metre beam and a gross tonnage of 2,864 (Boat International, YachtBuyer). Her three carbon masts are each 70 metres tall and carry about 2,900 square metres of sail (Boat International).
Is Black Pearl the largest sailing yacht in the world?
No. Boat International ranks her second, after Oceanco's 125.8-metre Koru, delivered in 2023 (Boat International). The same list notes that the 142.81-metre Sailing Yacht A is officially designated a sail-assisted motor yacht, so she is not counted among the sailing yachts (Boat International).
Who built and designed Black Pearl?
Oceanco built her in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands, under the project name Solar (YachtBuyer). Boat International credits naval architecture to Dykstra Naval Architects, BMT Nigel Gee and Oceanco; Ken Freivokh and Nuvolari Lenard designed the exterior, and the interior is by Nuvolari Lenard, Ken Freivokh and Gerard P. Villate (Boat International, Oceanco).
How does Black Pearl sail and can she cross the Atlantic without fuel?
She uses a DynaRig: three free-standing masts that rotate to trim square sails on curved yards, all set at the push of a button in about seven minutes (Oceanco, YachtBuyer). Under sail her variable-pitch propellers can work as turbines to charge the batteries, and Oceanco says she can cross the Atlantic without burning fossil fuel (SuperyachtNews, Oceanco).
What is on board Black Pearl?
Oceanco lists a spa pool, a hot tub, a cinema in the beach club and a multi-level atrium with a glass lift (Oceanco). YachtBuyer gives more detail: a 4-metre pool with a counter-current system on the main deck aft, a Jacuzzi for eight on the upper deck aft, a full-beam beach club with a gym, hammam, sauna, massage room and juice bar, an outdoor cinema with a 9-by-14-metre screen on the mizzen mast, and three tenders: a 10.4-metre Pascoe limousine, a 9.8-metre Pascoe Beachlander and a 5.65-metre Williams (YachtBuyer).
Can you charter Black Pearl?
Yes. She joined the charter market in winter 2023 and is listed for charter for up to 12 guests, in the Mediterranean in summer and the Caribbean in winter (YachtCharterFleet, Bernard Gallay).
Is this the Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean?
No. This page is about the real 106.7-metre sailing yacht delivered by Oceanco in 2018 (Boat International), not the fictional ship from the films.
Where is Black Pearl now?
Her live position is shown on public AIS trackers: MarineTraffic and VesselFinder. Search by IMO 1012490 or MMSI 319113100 (VesselFinder).
