In short

Prince Abdulaziz is a 147-metre motor yacht built by the Danish shipyard Helsingør Værft in 1984 and reported to be owned by the Saudi royal family: according to Boat International, she was delivered to her first owner, King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, has served the Saudi royal family ever since and is berthed beside the king's palace in Jeddah (Boat International, February 2025). Boat International writes that her delivery ended El Mahrousa's century-long hold on the title of the world's longest yacht (Boat International), and SuperYacht Times wrote in 2017 that she stayed at the top of its list of the 100 largest yachts until the 162-metre Dubai arrived in 2006 (SuperYacht Times, 14 March 2017). In Boat International's February 2025 ranking she was the ninth-longest yacht in the world. She was designed by Maierform with interiors by the late David Hicks, and was built at a reported cost of $184 million (Boat International). She has been refitted in 1987, 1996 and 2005 (Boat International) and again in 2023 by Palumbo Superyachts Refit, according to YachtBuyer (YachtBuyer).

Questions

How big is the Prince Abdulaziz yacht?
Prince Abdulaziz is 147 metres (482 ft) long, with a beam of 18.3 metres, a draught of 4.88 metres and a gross tonnage of 8,233 (Boat International). She is built over five decks (YachtBuyer).
Was Prince Abdulaziz ever the largest yacht in the world?
Yes. Boat International writes that the 1865 El Mahrousa held the title of the world's longest yacht for more than a century until Prince Abdulaziz was delivered in the 1980s (Boat International); Boat International's own tables, however, give El Mahrousa 150.57 m against 147 m for Prince Abdulaziz, so the claim rests on Boat International's wording. SuperYacht Times wrote in 2017 that Prince Abdulaziz stayed at the top of its 100-largest list until Dubai (162 m) in 2006 (SuperYacht Times, 14 March 2017). In Boat International's February 2025 ranking she was ninth by length, and the Boat International directory now lists her as the tenth-longest yacht in the world (Boat International).
Who built and designed Prince Abdulaziz?
The Danish shipyard Helsingør Værft built her; the keel was laid in June 1983 and she was handed over on 15 June 1984 (YachtBuyer). Maierform designed the exterior and naval architecture, and David Hicks designed the interior (Boat International).
What is on board Prince Abdulaziz?
Boat International lists a hospital, a mosque and a cinema, and a large lobby said to be modelled on the Titanic's (Boat International). YachtBuyer adds a helipad on the bow and a guest lift (YachtBuyer). She can carry 64 guests in 32 staterooms with 65 crew (Boat International).
Who owns Prince Abdulaziz?
She is reported to be owned by the Saudi royal family. According to Boat International (February 2025), she has served the Saudi royal family since her delivery in 1984 to her first owner, King Fahd of Saudi Arabia (Boat International).
How much did Prince Abdulaziz cost?
Boat International reports that she was built at a cost of $184 million (Boat International). YachtBuyer lists her as not for sale (YachtBuyer).
Where is Prince Abdulaziz now?
Boat International reports that she is berthed beside the king's palace in Jeddah (Boat International). Her live position, when she transmits, is shown on public AIS trackers: MarineTraffic and VesselFinder. Search by IMO 1003308 (vesseltracker).
